ℹ️ How this campaign page works

This campaign is part of UPROAR — Uniting Prisoners’ Relatives Organizing Against Repression, sparked by Kevin “Rashid” Johnson’s 2024 call to organize a prisoner support network composed of prisoners’ loved ones . Our method is simple: organize loved ones, create receipts, and force officials to respond. Each complaint, call, and email documents abuse, notifies authorities, and proves when they fail to act.

  1. Read the case summary above to understand Dewaune’s current situation and demands.
  2. Follow the steps in order:
    • Step 1: File the OSIG Ombudsman complaint using the copy-ready text provided.
    • Step 2: Send the pre-written email to VADOC leadership and oversight (auto-mailto button included).
    • Step 3: Use the ActionNetwork tool to link Dewaune’s case with the wider Virginia prison crisis.
    • Step 4: Call officials directly using the provided numbers and script—voicemail counts.
    • Step 5: Report your action in the embedded form so we can track pressure and follow up.
  3. Share this campaign under “Ongoing Campaigns” to pull in more people.

Privacy & safety: You may submit OSIG complaints with minimal personal information or anonymously. All scripts and complaint texts are copy-ready—just follow the steps in order to add to the collective pressure.

UPROAR is always seeking more loved ones—and devoted, accountable people inside and outside—who can coordinate, support families, and help develop strategies of protest, exposure, and resistance. Join us here.

On 18 July 2025, Red Onion Unit Manager “Day” forced Dewaune Lane Jr. into cell C-402—a so-called “suicide / mental-health / restraint” cell that is crawling with bugs, black with mold, and wired for no electricity. Dewaune is not suicidal, mentally ill, or under restraint status. Staff seized his JPay tablet, cut every line of communication, and claimed he was being punished for “flooding” his old cell.

The truth is plain: another prisoner admitted causing the flood, and a correctional officer corroborated it. This is pure retaliation for Dewaune’s grievances and whistle-blowing. His written complaint of 18 July cites violations of OP 135.1 (Groups 29  30) and the Eighth Amendment. Unless this move is reversed immediately, Red Onion is knowingly subjecting him to unconstitutional punishment and health hazards.

📅 Incident Update — September 16, 2025 (around 11:30 a.m.)

In C-Building, Pod C-0 (same pod as William Tanner), staff pulled Dewaune Lane Jr. from his cell after a flood caused by another prisoner. Around 11:30 a.m., officers tried to force him to kneel in toilet water without a shower. When he refused, he was slammed face-down in the toilet area, taken to a pod table and made to change clothes in view of others, and further harassed/assaulted. This occurred in the same pod where William Tanner stood up to observe and was then slammed face-first onto a table by CO Boggs.

We demand that Virginia DOC and Red Onion officials:

  • đźšš Transfer Dewaune out of the Western Region to a safer Virginia facility (e.g., Sussex I, Nottoway, or Augusta).
  • đźš« Remove him immediately from the retaliatory “mental-health/restraint” cell assigned on July 18 2025.
  • 📞 Restore all communication, JPay tablet, electricity, and commissary privileges in full.
  • ⚖️ Hold Unit Manager “Day” accountable for fabricating charges and ordering the retaliatory move.
  • 🔍 Launch an independent investigation into staff misconduct and ongoing retaliation.

For clarity: both incidents on Sept 16 occurred in C-Building, Pod C-0 around 11:30 a.m.

Hello, I’m calling about Dewaune Lane Jr., ID #1465648, at Red Onion State Prison, housed in C-Building, Pod C-0 (same pod as William Tanner). • On July 18, 2025, he was moved to a filthy “suicide/mental-health/restraint” cell with no electricity despite not being on that status; his tablet and privileges were taken, even though another prisoner admitted causing the earlier flood. • On September 16, 2025, around 11:30 a.m. in Pod C-0, staff pulled him from his cell after a different flood caused by someone else, tried to force him to kneel in toilet water without a shower, slammed him face-down in the toilet area when he refused, then took him to a pod table to change in view of others while continuing harassment/assault. In the same timeframe and pod, witness William Tanner was slammed when he stood to observe. This is clear retaliation and abuse. I’m demanding that you: 1) Restore electricity, communications, and all privileges today; end any retaliatory cell status. 2) Investigate the 9/16 C-0 incident (around 11:30 a.m.), preserve all video and logs, and discipline involved staff and Unit Manager “Day.” 3) Approve transfer out of the Western Region to a safer facility. Will you commit to these actions now and provide written confirmation to his mother, Tyrecia Williams? Thank you.
